Consignment vs. Buy Back: How Selling to TROVE Works

By September 17, 2026September 23rd, 2026No Comments

We get asked often: what’s the difference between consigning a bag and selling it to TROVE outright? Both are ways to turn a piece you’re done with into cash — the right one depends on the bag, and on what matters more to you: speed, or maximising what you get.

Consignment

We list your piece for sale and pay you out once it sells. This usually means a better return than a buy back, since it’s sold at retail rather than at a wholesale price, but it takes longer — and isn’t guaranteed on a specific timeline.

Buy Back

We purchase the piece from you directly, on the spot, once we’ve seen it in person. It’s faster and certain, but the offer will be lower than what it might eventually sell for through consignment — we’re taking on the item, the holding cost, and the resale risk.

Which One Is Right for You?

Not every piece qualifies for a buy back, and for some bags consignment is simply the better fit. We’ll always tell you honestly which options are realistic for your specific piece once we’ve seen photos.

Either way, it starts the same way: send us photos on WhatsApp and we’ll walk you through it. Full details are on our Consign page.
