Caring for Your Bag Between Wears

A well-cared-for bag holds its value and its beauty for decades — which matters whether you plan to carry it forever or consign it with us one day. A few habits go a long way.

Store It Properly

Keep your bag stuffed with its dust bag or acid-free tissue when not in use, so it holds its shape rather than creasing or collapsing. Avoid direct sunlight and humidity, both of which can dry out or discolour leather over time.

Mind the Hardware

Gold and palladium hardware can tarnish with contact from perfume, hand sanitiser, and skin oils. A soft, dry cloth after each wear keeps it bright; avoid polishing chemicals unless they’re made specifically for the metal type.

Watch Where You Set It Down

The base of a bag takes the most wear. Bag feet or a base shaper can help, and it’s worth being mindful of rough or wet surfaces, especially with lighter leathers like Epsom or Togo.

Clean Gently, or Not at All

When in doubt, don’t experiment with home remedies on fine leather — a well-meaning clean can do more damage than the mark you’re trying to remove. If a piece needs attention, a professional leather specialist is worth the cost.
